DESCRIPTION
To date, nine fish passage barriers have been corrected in the Mill, Van Ornum, and Mill
sub-basins. These projects have restored access to roughly 48 miles of anadromous
habitat for juvenile and adult coho, steelhead, and cutthroat. One of the projects, Wisner
Creek restoration, re-opened an old stream channel that was filled in by a previous
landowner. Other projects replaced undersized culverts with fish passable structures or
removed culverts entirely where they were no longer needed. By reconnecting the
stream network, these projects collectively have had more fish benefits than any
individual project by itself. Additional work at each project location to remove invasive
plants and plant native trees and shrubs will improve stream shading and bank
stability.
