DESCRIPTION

Tri-State Steelheaders, Inc., sponsored this design alternatives assessment for a comprehensive reach restoration project on a 1.5 mile reach of the Walla Walla River, near Lowden, WA. Design and restoration alternatives were developed with landowner input and review. The design alternatives addressed actions to improve in-stream habitat, riparian buffers, channel forming processes, sediment transport, and floodplain connectivity. The preferred alternative identified levee removal, placement of large woody debris,and planting riparian vegetation to achieve the restoration goals. The alternatives were developed to the 30% design level, including construction estimates for the alternatives.
