DESCRIPTION
This project completed final designs on the Phase 3 segment of the Bridge to Bridge project reach on the Walla Walla River near Lowden, WA. The contracted engineering firm GeoEngineers provided updated design and bid documents including new plan set, quantities, and cost estimates. This section of the Walla Walla River is identified by the Snake River Recovery Board as a priority restoration reach and major spawning area. Adult and juvenile summer steelhead and spring Chinook occupy this project reach during migration, and bull trout occur here seasonally. Other species of cultural value and state concern (lamprey, margined sculpin, and leopard dace) inhabit this location.
The project area was originally designed under SRFB 14-1902. This project creates a design in response to a major avulsion on the Walla Walla river that cause the original project design to not provide the salmon benefit of the original porject goals and objectives. This project footprint covers 45 acres and .52 river miles of previously reported project areas.
