DESCRIPTION
The landowner of this property has received a Backyard Habitat grant from the Kitsap Conservation District to restore the stream to a more natural state. This stretch of stream's geomorphology was drastically altered with the installment of two small weirs in the stream. Both weirs are about a foot or over in height, creating partial to complete salmon migration impediments. The project gol is to displace both weirs and grade the stream down to a gradient suitable for salmon migration. Removal of the weirs will open up habitat for fish that were unable to surmount such obstacles. In addition to the abolishing of migration barriers, noxious weeds and invasive plant species will be eradicated and replaced with suitable native vegetation to bolster the functions of the riparian buffer.
