DESCRIPTION
This project reconnects a disconnected floodplain by breaching a levee, excavating several small off-channel areas to provide high-water refugia for salmonids, and implementing upland and riparian vegetation restoration. Despite that the Entiat River has an extensive history of lasting human impacts, we believe that this project represents the best possible design that addresses limiting factors and yet is still geomorphically appropriate on the landscape. This has been a unique opportunity to largely restore several missing elements of in-stream and riparian function which can serve as a demonstration project for what is still possible within the lower valley. In addition to the removal/modification of the levees, and the modification of hatchery infrastructure to accomodate those changes, we have planted approximately 3.7 acres of the floodplain area with native riparian and upland species of trees, shrubs and grasses.
