Skagit Fisheries Enhancement Group (SFEG), in partnership with the Skagit River System Cooperative (SRSC), requested funds to conduct riparian restoration in the Skagit River Watershed. This project worked with major landowners and partners such as Seattle City Light and the Skagit Conservation District, as well as with new community partners including a private resident of Marblemount, to address riparian restoration needs in high priority areas. The primary restoration goal at all sites is to protect and restore functional riparian and floodplain forests. Overall, the project established and or enhanced multiple acres of riparian habitat, increased native plant diversity and structural complexity, reduced invasive species pressure, and advanced long-term floodplain forest succession at both restoration sites. Continued monitoring and stewardship throughout the project period helped ensure successful establishment of native vegetation and improved the ecological function and resilience of these riparian areas.
