The Skagit River System Cooperative (SRSC) has partnered with the Skagit Watershed Council (SWC) and several landowners to address the restoration trajectory of three properties in the Skagit River basin. The project will ensure the success of previously funded SRFB projects by replanting unsuccessful areas, expanding the restored areas, and controlling invasive species. Effort applied at this stage would build on past investments and accelerate the trajectory towards self-sustainability. Inaction would result in the loss of past investments through project failure. On-the-ground project activities led by the SRSC would include developing a planting plan, planting native vegetation, and controlling invasive species. The SWC would create a work group of local landowners, funders, and organizations to improve planting success basin wide. Sponsored work group activities would include: 1) Annual one-day conferences that highlight relevant studies, challenges, and innovations. 2) A riparian database where members record riparian planting areas and methodologies. 3) A listserv where members discuss pressing issues. 4) A mentoring program that pairs new members with seasoned restoration ecologists. The goal of the workgroup would be to increase information sharing between restoration entities to improve project performance.
