DESCRIPTION
City of Bothell is partnering with Forterra, King County, and OneBothell to facilitate the acquisition and permanent protection of 10 acres of an 89-acre urban property in Bothell, approximately 2.5 river miles upstream from Lake Washington. With more than 2000 linear feet of tributary, riverbank, and riparian habitat along the Sammamish River, the acquisition of this land will protect it from incompatible uses and allow for future opportunities for floodplain and riparian habitat restoration that could benefit Chinook salmon (threatened), Lake Sammamish kokanee, coho and sockeye. The property is one of the largest undeveloped sites remaining along the Sammamish River (located in WRIA 8), and is at extreme risk of development in a fast-growing area. The Wayne Sammamish Riverfront Project will protect critical salmon and riparian habitat, while simultaneously providing a space for the community to play, explore, and connect to extensive trail systems, downtown Bothell, and the greater Puget Sound region.
