DESCRIPTION
This project is to acquire a conservation easement on about 34 acres of land associated with the Wayne golf course. King County is partnering with the City of Bothell to permanently protect the entire Wayne golf course (89 acres). As one of the largest undeveloped sites remaining along the Sammamish River, the Wayne Sammamish Riverfront Community Project represents an opportunity to preserve and restore this property for future generations. King County plans to purchase a conservation easement on up to 34 acres. An existing conservation easement exists on 46 acres, and the City of Bothell plans to purchase the underlying fee of the entire site. The City and County have partnered on this project because of the cost involved to protect the property. The County's protective Easement will strip the development rights, prevent future development and impervious surfaces, allow passive recreation, and allow restoration to improve the site, especially for salmon, other aquatic life, and wildlife. Since Bothell will own the underlying fee, Bothell will manage the site for public use consistent with the easement requirements. The easement will be monitored by King County. This scenario allows both parties to share the property costs and puts maintenance costs on the City since the property is located within their jurisdiction.
