DESCRIPTION
In 2010, Kitsap County recieved an EPA Watershed Assistance Grant. The first phase included a sediment source analysis and restoration (bulkhead removal) feasibility study. Additional phases included public demonstration bulkhead removal project (Anna Smith Park Bulkhead Removal) and demonstration projects on private property. The Sediment Source Analysis used existing data to map sediment sources ("feeder bluffs" and tributaries) along the marine shoreline. The drift cells and reaches were then prioritized using the sediment source data, proximity to forage fish and accretion spits, and structure setback distance (feasiblity). Those results were then coupled with a shoreline landowner restoration interest survey to identify sites with landowners in priority areas willing to consider removing their bulkhead.
