The Pulling Together Initiative is a restoration and planning program to prevent the spread of invasive weeds such as Scotch broom, knotweeds, herb Robert, European blackberry, reed canarygrass, butterfly bush, and thistles in the coastal watersheds of the Olympia Peninsula. Invasive plant species degrade native habitats and are extremely costly to address once they are established. The project will be implemented in six coastal watersheds in three counties – Quinault and Raft in Grays Harbor County, Queets, Hoh and Goodman in Jefferson County, and Quillayute in Clallam County. The sponsor will develop a program and provide specific recommendations, protocols, and early control support to natural resource and transportation corridor managers, recreational users and guides, landscaping professionals and restoration project sponsors. This project will benefit Chinook, Chum, Coho, Sockeye, steelhead, trout, char, and their prey species. Working with agency, tribal, recreational, local community, and non-profit partners, the program's goals are to establish a cross-jurisdictional infrastructure of weed prevention and management to improve prevention and restoration, reduce impacts to industries such as fishing and forestry, reduce costs for invasive weed control, and reduce herbicide use across these watersheds.
