DESCRIPTION
Patit Creek originates in the mixed rangeland of on the western flanks of the Blue Mountains of SE Washington and terminates in the Touchet River within the City of Dayton, WA. The creek is designated as a Minor Spawning Area mSA for steelhead which encompasses the watershed from the confluence with the Touchet River up into the top of the drainage. The creek has a priority protection designation from the confluence of the North and South Fork up the south Fork into its headwaters. The creek supports populations of wild Mid-Columbia River ESU Steelhead.
Patit Creek has undergone habitat degradation from the removal of riparian trees, elevated water temperature, channel straightening, excess fine sediments and floodplain confinement. Limiting factors in Deadman Creek are identified as reduced riparian function, fine sediment, limited pool habitat, low flows, and high summer temperature. Protection involves maintenance of existing condition, and the promotion of passive restoration to allow natural healing of habitat. Habitat actions implemented in this watershed include removal of imminent threats, riparian restoration and protection, upland restoration to prevent sedimentation.
