The Chelan County Natural Resources Department (CCNRD) and Cascadia Conservation District (CCD) have implemented the Entiat Instream Habitat Improvement Project. This project was identified in the "aquatic habitat recommendations" contained in the Entiat WRIA 46 Management Plan, specifically Entiat Ecosystem Diagnosis and Treatment Analysis (EDT), Alternative Management Scenario 1 and 5. The cross vane installations in the lower Entiat is intended to increase the amount of pool habitat, increase LWD loading, reduce channel confinement, and restore a measure of riparian function. These measures are consistent with the Entiat WRIA 46 Management Plan "diagnoses" for Entiat spring and late-run Chinook. The Entiat Instream Habitat Improvement Project was constructed in two separate locations in the mainstem Entiat River: Hanan Detwiler and Milne (See Hanan-Detwiler page for details on that project). The Milne project entailed the installation of a five rock barbs, one diversion barb structure with sluice-gate, thirteen large logs with root-wads, and six boulder clusters with five boulders each. The diversion barb will be used to convey water to the irrigation ditch and replaces the push-up dam created annually by the orchardist. The sluice-gate was installed to assist in reducing the amount of sediment that accumulates in the irrigation ditch. Large wood structures which were installed from RM 2.55 - 2.75.
