DESCRIPTION
Cascadia Conservation District worked with eight landowners to developed this project into two separate sites along the Entiat River to improve riparian habitat and reduce water temperature exceedences. Site 1 runs the distance between RM 1.0-4.25 and Site 2 is located at RM 21.5. Site 2 is located just upstream from 'Entiat RM 21.5 LWD and Riparian Restoration Project' that will be implemented in fall 2010.
2.9 miles of riparian habitat on both left and right (primarily right bank) bank of the Entiat River. Where existing irrigation was available a temporary irrigation drip system was designed and installed to supplement watering during the first three growing seasons. At locations without access to irrigation plants received a biodegradable weed matting and mulch treatment that double for both weed barrier and soil moisture retention.
Site 2 consisted of restoring 924 linear feet of riparian habitat on the left bank (looking downstream) of Entiat River. Where existing irrigation was available a temporary irrigation drip system was designed and installed to supplement watering during the first three growing seasons properties without irrigation received the same treatment as Site 1.
Work consisted of removing any non-native or noxious plant species within the project areas and planting a mix of native riparian vegetation. Protective measures will be taken to reduce wildlife related plant mortality. Survival and effectiveness monitoring will be conducted following implementation of the project to establish baseline data and monitor progress annually for a minimum five and a maximum of ten years.
