DESCRIPTION
In coordination with other agencies, the Bureau of Reclamation is addressing flow, fish passage, and screening problems in several sub-basins of the Columbia River watershed. This project involves the consolidation of two irrigation systems: the Knapp-Wham (KW) and the Hanan-Detweiler (HD) canals in the lower Entiat River basin. The overall purpose of the KW-HD consolidation project is to improve fish passage, conserve water, and minimize diversion operation and maintenance in the Entiat River (USBR, 2006). As part of the project, the diversion structure and fishscreen of the KW intake have been improved, surface diversions into the HD canal have been eliminated, and HD water users shifted to private irrigation wells, connnected to the KW pipe, or, in the case of the Keystone Ranch (largest and last HD user), provided with upgrades to an existing individual surface water diversion to replace the HD water.
This HWS project's scope includes only the overall project planning and design, and the KW intake and screen improvements. The wells, piping, and surface water diversion improvements at Keystone Ranch are described in separate HWS projects (03-LER-2009-02 CCD Below the Keystone Bridge and 03-LER-2009-3 HD Wells)
