DESCRIPTION
This project was implemented in the fall 2007 on four separate properties alongside the Entiat River, involved twenty-five tenth grade science students from the Entiat High School and effectively restored .56 acres of riparian vegetation.
The Cascadia Conservation District is in the on going process of developing riparian restoration and enhancement projects throughout the Entiat Watershed (WRIA 46) that involve public outreach and education, design of riparian area layout with willing landowners, the purchase of native trees and shrubs, and the installation and monitoring of riparian plants, designed to provide improved water quality and fish habitat, as well as, mitigating stream bank erosion of private properties.
A lack of riparian vegetation has been identified as the primary limiting factor to temperature exceedences and salmon recovery efforts in the Entiat River watershed (GeoEngineers, 2007). Properly functioning riparian areas are critical to mitigating water temperature exceedences and restoring other associated aquatic resource values such as streambank stabilization, flood attenuation, and habitat and nutrient inputs (GeoEngineers, 2007).
