DESCRIPTION

The Bulson Creek Re-route project has been implemented on approximately 0.5 acres of land adjacent to Bulson Creek. Bulson Creek is located in the south end of the Skagit Valley approximately 1.5 miles east of the Town of Conway. The objective of the Bulson Creek Re-Route project was to: stop erosion to the north that borders a dairy farm by re-routing Buslon Creek into a new channel, reducing fecal coliform inputs, and to increase fish habitat by creating a new channel.

Final designs, permit documents, and implementation for this project were funded by a portion of a larger Department of Ecology grant (G1400401), a National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) grant (2008-0053-018) and the County's Clean Water Program. The Bulson Creek Re-route project was lead by Skagit County Public Works (SCPW) in partnership with Skagit Fisheries Enhancement Group (SFEG) and the Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP) with the goal of completing restoration actions that will restore salmon habitat along 300 feet of Bulson Creek as well as reduce exposure to fecal coliform inputs from the adjacent dairy farm. This project consisted of three landowners, 12 large woody debris structures to increase channel complexity for fish, almost 2,400 native plants, and blackberry removal along 640 linear feet of the stream. A large portion of the project area was enrolled in the Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP) and this area is not reflected in our totals.
