DESCRIPTION
Major completed construction features and items include the 792 Lin-Ft of major floodplain side channel that was excavated and established. This constructed floodplain side channel provided the final connection to the existing side channel segment that was built in previous phases of the South Fork Floodplain Restoration project. The completed side channel excavation work also completed the side channel downstream outlet connection to the Puyallup River main stem. Side channel excavation for this Phase 2B project totaled 28,600 CY. The project also included construction and installation of thirty five Engineered Log Jams (fiver difference class types) structures within the excavated side channel feature. Numerous pieces and clusters of floodplain roughness features were installed, which totaled more than fifty. Completed work also included installation of structures to intercept and convey runoff from the steep slope hillside. Compacted embankment material was placed which totaled 1,945 CY of excavated native material. Seeding and planting of disturbed areas of the project site was also completed. A Verizon fiber optic cable and high pressure gas main were relocated to the perimeter access road, which removed the utilities from the lower floodplain area of the project site. This allowed for the construction of the major side channel feature without interfering with the utility lines. The gas main completed work included relocation of 1,280 Lin-Ft gas piping, trenching, backfill and two intercept connections. The fiber optic cable completed work included relocation of 2,250 Lin-Ft for cable, trenching, two utility splice connection vaults and associated backfill. Overall, about 3.3 Ac of riparian floodplain corridor was restored as part of this phase of the project.
