DESCRIPTION

The Great Peninsula Conservancy (GPC) will acquire approximately 84 acres (74 fee, 10 Conservation Easement) of coastal inlet estuary andriparian habitat on North Cove at the head of Filucy Bay on Key Peninsula, in Pierce County. This includes nearly one mile of shoreline, most of it estuarine, that is of high regional and local protection priority and is in near-reference condition. These nearshore lands benefit multiple species of salmon, including ESA-listed Chinook salmon and steelhead, as well as summer and fall-run chum salmon, coho salmon and cutthroat trout. This project was identified by the "Strategic Identification of Areas and Projects for Nearshore Restoration throughout Key Peninsula-Gig Harbor-Islands Watershed, WRIA 15, Washington" report prepared by the South Puget Sound Salmon Enhancement Group.
