The goal of the WRIA 19 Riparian Restoration Project is to increase the quantity and quality of riparian forest along rivers and streams within WRIA 19. Many watersheds within WRIA 19 have degraded riparian habitat that are overwhelmingly dominated by deciduous trees or invasive species. These degraded conditions have impacted water quality, sedimentation and conifer LWD recruitment. The project will engage willing landowners in order to complete riparian habitat restoration to improve river and stream conditions for five species of salmonids, including chinook salmon and steelhead trout. Project partners include the Lower Elwha KlallamTribe and Makah Tribe.
