DESCRIPTION
South Puget Sound Salmon Enhancement Group (SPSSEG) used this funding for a restoration project located on a small tributary to mainstem Perry Creek in Thurston County. Chum, coho, and cutthroat trout use the tributary The pre-existing culvert had an outfall drop over 5 feet. The project design used a WDFW stream simulation culvert concept with seven weir structures in the stream channel (four upstream and three downstream). The project installed a 10-gauge corrugated 12-foot round culvert with beveled ends that is 61 feet long as well as weir structures that are distributed over 175 feet of stream channel. The weirs are designed to help control head cutting and maintain a gradient over time. After the project was completed SPSSEG and the landowners planted approximately 800 native plants in the disturbed area.
