DESCRIPTION
The Pomeroy CD will be submitting a riparian restoration, flow enhancement, and water quality improvement project on Upper Pataha Creek. The project area will cover an area that is approximately 1 mile up the Pataha Creek from the bottom of the westside of the Alpowa Grade. Sec. 18, Tn 11N, Rg 43. The restoration work will cover approximately 1.75 miles of stream and riparian area. The Pomeroy CD is proposing to install Beaver Dam Analogs (BDA) and Post Assisted Log Structures (PALS) along with tree planting in an area where the landowner wants to create wildlife habitat focusing on Beaver?s. It could eventually work into another Beaver Relocation area for problem beavers. This project would be matched with funds from the Blue Mt. Foundation through Puget Sound Energy (PSE) if funded, USFS, and also funds from a wetland mitigation project with Garfield County in the same area. The landowner may also work with NRCS to fund part of the project phases or increase the scope of the project including developing a comprehensive management plan for the property. The overall goals of this project is to increase instream flows during low flow periods, reduce bank erosion, and improve habitat for steelhead, beavers, and other wildlife in Pataha Creek. This project will identify PALS and BDA locations for 50-100 structures in 2021 and an additional 50-100 structures in 2022 in a 1.5 mile section of Pataha Creek ~ 7,920 feet.
