DESCRIPTION
The CTUIR will use this grant to restore and enhance floodplain connectivity, improve geomorphic and hydrologic function, place instream habitat elements to improve spawning and rearing habitat and complexity, and re-vegetate disturbed riparian areas. Specifically, we will implement the N.F. Touchet River Baileysburg Restoration Design (12-1639). This design, agreed upon by the design team and the three private landowners proposes to increase floodplain area by approximately 12 acres, the main channel stream length by 800 feet, 6 new side channels, and place approximately 140 pieces of LWD in habitat structures across the approximate 3/4 mile project length. Finally, this project is planned to be paired with conservation easements proposed in separate projects by the Blue Mountain Land Trust to protect the enhanced habitat conditions. The project is identified as the top project for the North Touchet River in the Touchet River Geomorphic Assessment. The project will benefit ESA listed Mid-Columbia steelhead and is located in a designated priority restoration reach in the Touchet River major spawning area as identified in the Salmon Recovery Plan for SE Washington and regional the three year work plan.
