DESCRIPTION
The Kittitas County Conservation District constructed a siphon at the intersection of the Ellensburg Water Company (EWC) canal with Coleman Creek east of Ellensburg, WA and replaced the EWC's existing upstream irrigation water diversion with a structure that includes a fish screen and fishway to provide safe fish passage. This project is one in a series designed to provide safe fish passage in the lower five miles of Coleman Creek. Projects have already been completed to provide passage into the first two miles, as well as provide fish screens to protect fish from entrainment and on-farm projects that resulted in Trust Water for instream flow through irrigation efficiency improvements. This project improves fish access for Spring Chinook Salmon and Mid-Columbia summer steelhead.
