DESCRIPTION

Okanogan County used this funding to assist in piping part of the 6.2 mile delivery ditch in high water loss areas. Work consisted of purchasing and installing 1,400' of 42" diameter spiral pipe and installing a single 6" turnout; fabricating and installing 26' of 48" diameter spiral pipe to complete the linkage between the road culvert and installing 48" diameter spiral pipe immediately below the upper road crossing; installing a concrete apron at same location; and completing bank improvements upstream of the WDFW fish screen required for higher flow levels due to the fish screen design. Conveyance loss over the length of the ditch was estimated at more than 70%. The ditch below the headgate was a high water loss area, patched with hand-placed plastic. Piping this section significantly reduced leakage and allowed further reduction in the diversion, returning 10 cfs to fish habitat in the Chewuch River system. In addition to returning water to the river by reducing conveyance losses, ditch flows were reduced to levels that prevent 'take' of endangered species from excessive approach velocities to the fish screen. Partners included the Governor's Salmon Recovery Office, Early Action, National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF), and WDFW
