DESCRIPTION
Construction of SR 207 in 1942 disconnected floodplain adjacent to Nason Creek near RM 4.6. The 13 acre 100 year floodplain contained a 4.6 acre high flow side channel that was activated on an annual basis. This project proposes to hydraulically reconnect this floodplain side channel to restore fish access to the seasonal flow-through side channel. This will provide off-channel habitat for rearing and refuge for juvenile spring Chinook and steelhead during the high flow season in Nason Creek. Side channel reconnection provides peripheral and transitional habitat which is the highest priority ecological concern to be addressed in Nason Creek. Nason Creek has been identified as the sub-watershed, or assessment unit, with the highest priority for restoration actions in the Wenatchee watershed.
