DESCRIPTION
The 18 acre Bancroft easement protects a riparian habitat area approximately 260 ft long along both banks of the Entiat River, totally 520 ft of shoreline protection. The riparian area lies along the western edge of the easement, with the remainder of the easement comprised of open grassy meadows and small stands of trees and shrubs. The western edge and the southeast corner of the easement borders US National Forest Service land. This connection to protected public land allows wildlife access to the Entiat River and its riparian area without having to negotiate human development. Intact blocks of riparian, floodplain and valley floor areas of the Entiat River watershed are critical for maintaining and protecting water quality & quantity, fish and wildlife habitat and intact floodplain function. Retention and protection of riparian areas, such as the one being discussed, prevent further fragmentation and degradation of riparian and instream habitats for sensitive salmonid species. Bull trout, spring Chinook and steelhead all benefit from this easement. This easement further protects the riparian area, floodplain and channel geometry of the river from human activity. This conservation easement is on private property and has no public access.
