DESCRIPTION
Nisqually Land Trust acquired for permanent protection 960 acres of commercial forestland including the headwaters of the north fork of Busy Wild Creek. The proposed acquisition includes approximately 3 miles of Busy Wild Creek and 4 miles of tributary streams. Busy Wild Creek is in the upper reaches of the Mashel River, a tributary of the Nisqually River. The Busy Wild has been identified as a particularly important tributary for protecting and restoring steelhead trout habitat. Funding: WA Ecology Streamflow Restoration Program. In a separate, but related transaction, the Nisqually Indian Tribe acquired for permanent protection 1,240 acres along the north fork of Busy Wild Creek immediately adjacent and downstream of the Land Trust acquisition. Funding: WA Ecology Clean Water Revolving Fund Loan.
