DESCRIPTION
Mid-Puget Sound Fisheries Enhancement Group proposes a complete final design to remove 60 feet of concrete groin, three creosoted wood piles, and scattered concrete debris to restore sediment transport processes and nearshore habitat along a high-priority segment of shoreline on the northern Kitsap Peninsula. The feasibility report was completed with support from Shore Friendly Kitsap. With funding from this proposal, Mid Sound Fisheries will complete neighbor outreach, modeling and analysis, a design report, stamped engineered drawings and bid documents. Feasibility recommended that a small amount of beach nourishment be installed following the removal of debris; permits (which have been obtained) will be finalized (adjusted/renewed) as necessary based upon how further analysis changes this strategy. The project will improve nearshore habitat conditions for out-migrating juvenile Chinook, steelhead, and coho salmon, forage fish, and eelgrass beds.
