DESCRIPTION
Bainbridge Island Land Trust willuse this funding to acquiretwo contiguous undeveloped parcels to permanently protect intact nearshore habitat on Bainbridge Island while providing pedestrian access to the water. The 12.49 acre property includes 5.06 acres of tidelands with eelgrass beds and sandy beach,550 feet of shoreline with active feeder bluffs, and 7.43 acres of uplandswith riparian vegetation, mixed mature forest, and open meadow. Identified as highly functioning habitat through the Bainbridge Island Nearshore Assessment and prioritized as a "highest conservation priority" for properties supplying sediment sources on Bainbridge Island, it is north and almost contiguous with over 18 acres of permanently protectedtidelands owned by Department of Natural Resources. Properties to the south host good quality nearshore, providing an opportunity to build a network of permanently protected shoreline. SRFB previously funded a feasibility study (10-1882). HWS project # NK BI 10-1882.
