DESCRIPTION
This important nearshore restoration, including partial groin removal and relocation, partial bulkhead removal, and beach nourishment to restore coastal and ecosystem processes was selected for it's value to the community as well as to support forage fish and other species found at the site including Chinook, chum, pink salmon. It also included looking at the historic conditions, assessing what factors built the beach, why erosion was occurring and coming up with a plan to fix it. Phase one was research on habitat, phase 2 was the first construction project to remove rip rap and drift wood and sand replaced, with phase 3 costal engineering looking at bulkhead removal and phase 4 was the final construction and restoration. After restoration research was conducted and forage fish eggs were found at the newly restored site.
