DESCRIPTION
Acquisitions with the goal to grow a waterfront park from 27 to nearly 170 acres, with mature coastal forest and a mile of unspoiled beach. The magnificent bluffs towering over a pristine beach are the main attraction for this park and an important riparian habitat. The County Park trails take you through the forest, past wetlands and includes a platform with sweeping views of Puget Sound and Port Susan Bay Preserve. Barnum point is at the entrance of Triangle Cove. The freshwater from the Stillaguamish River, mixes with saltwater from the Sound to create a rich feeding ground for marine species. This area is also in a key migratory path for shorebirds, and the marshland area is home for 90 percent of western Washington's wintering waterfowl. Juvenile salmon out migrating from the river find refuge along the shoreline and bay. Triangle Cove watersheds make up one of the largest drainage basins on Camano Island. This site includes an intact shoreline of nearshore habitat that is utilized by all 8 species of salmon that spawn in the Skagit and Stillaguamish Rivers, and also includes an exceptional feeder bluff that supplies sediment to Port Susan Bay.
