DESCRIPTION
Implementation of restoration for removal of approximately 350 linear feet of shoreline armor and removal of up to 1/3 acre of fill to re-establish nearshore processes at Hoypus Point, Deception Pass State Park, Whidbey Island. Beach nourishment will be added to supplement forage fish spawning while the habitat forming processes are reestablished following removal. A portion of the existing road will be decommissioned and converted to a gravel trail (trail width to be determined in the current design phase) and the riparian zone will be replanted with native trees, shrubs, and groundcovers following construction. The site is located along a transport zone within the upper third of the 2.4 mile long drift cell and the project will restore a bluff-backed beach and the marine riparian connection. The primary species supported by these habitats include ESA listed Chinook salmon, Coho, chum, pink, and steelhead as well as spawning habitat for surf smelt and Pacific sand lance.
