DESCRIPTION
This is the second phase of a project to remove approximately 325 feet of riprap and fill from the north end of Cornet Bay Day Use Area of Deception Pass State Park. This phase will develop final designs, cost estimates and permitting for the restoration. The first phase was a feasibility study supported by Shore Friendly and Orca funds by the Northwest Straits Foundation and the IC Marine Resources Committee. Forage fish spawning has been identified in this area and removal of the armor would result in an increase in availability of spawning habitat. Armor removal would also result in improved nearshore habitat and refugia for juvenile salmonids out-migrating from the Skagit River. Partners: Island County Marine Resources Committee, Northwest Straits Foundation, Washington State Parks.
