DESCRIPTION
The Whidbey Camano Land Trust is using funding to implement the Water Resource Inventory Area (WRIA) 6 Nearshore Acquisition Prioritization Tool for the conservation of nearshore habitat to support the recovery of salmonids within Puget Sound, including Endangered Species Act listed Puget Sound Chinook salmon and Puget Sound steelhead. Whidbey Camano Land Trust will use this funding to protect priority shoreline property in WRIA 6 through fee simple and conservation easement acquisition. This project builds on the previously funded RCO #17-1063 Nearshore Acquisition Strategy Development project. This round of tool utilization will be applied to two parcels in the North Livingston Watershed - a 34 acre parcel that contains a tidegate and 1700 ft of barrier beach. This property is the key parcel to any potential future restoration efforts in the 300 acre historic salt marsh that has been diked and farmed for over 100 years. The second parcel is ~25 acres of tidelands in front of the Livingston Bay Community and adjacent to over 7500 acres of tidelands that have been protected by the WCLT and TNC. This project is related to an ESRP project for acquisition funding and an Near Term Action (NEP Funding) to conduct a feasibility study for tidal connection and to conduct outreach with the community.
