DESCRIPTION
The North Olympic Land Trust purchased 25.5 acres to protect salmonid habitat. The properties are located in Clallam County, adjacent to Siebert Creek, north of Old Olympic highway near Port Angeles. The acquisition will help conserve the ecological integrity and biological diversity of the Siebert Creek watershed by protecting parcels containing critical riparian habitats and linking these parcels with other protected lands. The primary habitat that will be protected is riparian habitat. Two parcels were acquired totalling 25.5 acres of which approximately 17 acres is riparian habitat and 8.5 are uplands. One parcel of 4.36 acres was acquired in fee simple and the other parcel of 21.14 acres was protected with a conservation easement. The primary species supported by these habitats are Endangered Species Act listed anadromous fish including winter steelhead, Chinook, chum, pink, and coho salmon.
