About 2 miles of Siebert Creek, mostly on the east side, starting with its estuary at the point it enters the Strait of Juan de Fuca between Port Angeles and Carlsborg, are now under the protection of the North Olympic Land Trust. The goal of this project is to conserve, through conservation easements or fee-simple acquisition, additional land along Siebert Creek, particularly land on the west side of Siebert Creek, and land further upstream beyond river mile 2. Additionally, if land at the estuary can be conserved, including nearshore to the east and west, those projects will be pursued.
This project will build upon the protection efforts completed. Land in the Siebert Creek watershed is under the pressure of a growing population land conversion. We must seize the opportunity to protect the nearly pristine quality if the watershed while it is in good condition, and allow for the restoration needed on degraded habitat before further degradation occurs.
