DESCRIPTION
The 3 Crabs Nearshore and Estuarine Restoration Project will restore key ecological function to more than 40 acres of estuarine, riparian, and nearshore wetlands as well restoring a 1/2 mile of stream channel by removing infrastructure, fill and armoring at the site of the former 3 Crabs Restaurant in Sequim. This project will restore historic salt marsh and wetlands along Dungeness Bay and remove bank armoring from Meadowbrook Creek. Meadowbrook Creek is the last freshwater tributary to the Dungeness River and provides essential rearing habitat for multiple species of outmigrating juvenile Dungeness River salmon including endangered Puget Sound Chinook and Hood Canal-Eastern Strait of Juan de Fuca summer chum. Removal of armoring and restoration of a natural beach will allow for unimpeded sediment transport, improved water quality, and better migration for Dungness River Salmon. The project will also result in expanded waterfront public access at a newly established WDFW Wildlife Viewing Area.
