DESCRIPTION
The culvert at the Irondale Road crossing had been a fish passage barrier for Summer Chum, a species currently listed in accordance with the Endangered Species Act (ESA). In a major storm event the culvert failed and caused serious flooding and deposited road fill material in the streambed, smothering the remaining chum salmon spawning habitat in Chimacum Ck. The culvert was replaced to fix the road, prevent future failures of similar nature, and to allow for the salmon to access upstream habitat.
