This design and acquisition project will develop a final restoration design from a preferred alternative, by engaging with established key community stakeholder group that restores floodplain and estuary habitat, reduces flood risk, provides improved recreational and is compatible with the area shellfish resources.The project area is the lower one mile of the Big Quilcene River. The lower river current conditions consists of levees, road structures and bridges that limit the river from its historic channel migration zone. The lower Big Quilcene River is a high priority for restoration to recover ESA listed summer chum, Steelhead and Chinook. Other salmon species present in the river are non-listed coho and fall chum.
