DESCRIPTION
The Hood Canal Bridge Assessment seeks to reduce the environmental impacts of an important transportation asset connecting Kitsap and Olympic Peninsula, without reducing its transportation benefits. This multi-phase project takes an iterative approach to assessing, testing, and implementing solutions to reduce the bridge's negative impacts on the environment. Specifically, the assessment is targeting juvenile steelhead mortality, along with impacts to water quality and other juvenile and adult salmonids. The assessment takes a collaborative approach with partners including the Hood Canal Coordinating Council, Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, Long Live the Kings, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Washington State Dept. of Transportation, U.S. Navy, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
