DESCRIPTION
Jefferson County acquired the 0.38-acre McComb property at 10 Fremont Avenue located on the northern margin of the Big Quilcene River floodplain adjacent to 161 Rodgers St. We removed improvements, decommissioned the on-site system and well, and participated in acquisition and preliminary design review meetings with the Hood Canal Salmon Enhancement Group. Jefferson County Public Health participated in periodic meetings with HCSEG to coordinate on acquisitions and outreach and to review and provide input on the preliminary design developed by the Hood Canal Salmon Enhancement Group (HCSEG) and its consultants. The design includes "actions that will allow the river to reconnect to historic floodplain areas and that is consistent with community needs and benefits." One element is the re-design of an essential road and bridge to better accommodate the channel migration zone. This project will worked directly with several potential willing landowners towards accomplishing the acquisitions necessary, in part, to implement the Restoration Design's road alignment, including 70 Fremont Avenue, which is in the process of being acquired by Jefferson County as part of RCO 18-1227. PCSRF FY15 were spent within the award period.
