DESCRIPTION
The Hood Canal Salmon Enhancement Group is partnering with the Skokomish Tribe, Jefferson Conservation District, and the local landowner to determine the feasibility and preferred alternatives for removing an isolated levee constricting the Big Quilcene River and constraining properly functioning conditions important for recovery of summer chum salmon, as documented and modeled in the Summer Chum Salmon Recovery Plan (HCCC, 2005; Biometrics 2007). We will contract with the selected consultant to analyze old and new topography data to update the existing HEC-RAS model for this reach, conduct flooding and erosion potential analyses, a Hazard Assessment, and a Final Report documenting the alternatives analysis and the mutually-agreed upon preferred alternative.
Jefferson County Conservation District will conduct the topographic surveys, and will provide $4800 in matching, in-kind services. The Skokomish Tribe will provide $15,200 in engineering funds from a SRFB grant submitted in August 2007.
