DESCRIPTION
This site was impacted by the December 2007 flood during which floodwaters scoured the site and depostited large amounts of gravel and debris. The purpose of this project is to enhance marine wildlife habitat, improve shoreline stability, and to use native vegetation to help manage storm waer runoff on the property. This project includes the restoration of 80' of saltwater shoreline along Hood Canal with native plants. This project was located at a residence and includes a total of 2100 square feet of restored area.

This shoreline landowner was recruited by the Hood Canal Coordinating Council through the Community Nearshore Restoration Program and has been working on this native landscape for several year after the 2007 flooding event. The landowner spent 42 hours to complete this current project. The 80 feet of saltwater shoreline was planted with native vegetation to enhance wildlife habitat, provide higher quality salmon habitat and provide stability to a non-bulkheaded shoreline. The Mason Conservation District provided a Conservation Planting Plan that is designed to provide guidance on the addition of appropriate native plants for the site. To continue to build the riparian area, a relationship has been developed between the landowner, Mason Conservation District, and Woodbrook Nursery.
