DESCRIPTION
This landowner was recruited by the neighbor who completed a planting on the adjacent property. The landowner chose to plant a small portion of the front lawn and contribute 18 hours to test the suitability of the plants for this area. The purpose of this project is to primarily reintroduce salt-tolerant native plants to the site and to enhance marine wildlife habitat. The parcel is located along 50' of the Hood Canal. The Mason Conservation District provided a Conservation Planting Plan that is designed to provide guidance on the addition of appropriate native plants for the site. To continue to build the riparian area, a relationship has been developed between the landowner, Mason Conservation District and Woodbrook Nursery.
Restoration: The restoration site is a small section located above the property's bulkhead. This is an area affected by salt spray where existing grass fails to thrive. The area measures approximately 30 square feet. The plants added to this site are salt-tolerant plants to fill this space; Potentilla anserine (Cinquefoil/Silverweed), Armeria maritime (Sea Thrift), Fragaria chiloensis (Coastal Strawberry), Sedum oreganum (Oregon Stonecrop), Sedum divergens (Spreading Stonecrop).
Project Sponsors: Mason Conservation District/Critical Area Buffer Restoration and Hood Canal Coordinating Council/Marine Riparian Initiative
