This shoreline landowner was recruited by the Hood Canal Coordinating Council through the Community Nearshore Restoration Program. The landowner's 50' of shoreline does not lend to a large restoration project but they did take the first step to plant native plants to improve vegetation condition. This initial introduction provided the opportunity to talk about marine riparian benefits and work to increase their confidence to provide productive quality salmon habitat. The purpose of this project is to increase the use of native plants along a continuous community bulkhead, provide marine wildlife habitat, improve shoreline stability, and to use native vegetation to help manage storm water runoff on the property. The Mason Conservation District provided a Conservation Planting Plan that is designed to provide guidance on the addition of appropriate native plants for the site. To continue to build the riparian area, a relationship has been developed between the landowner, Mason Conservation District and Woodbrook Nursery.

Restoration: The site is located on a bulkhead and was grass. The Landowner has planted Fragaria chiloensis (Coastal Strawberry), Potentilla anserine (Cinquefoil/Silverweed), Armeria maritime (Sea Thrift) in a portion of this area. This location has the potential to increase the desire for native plants by neighboring landowners since it is a highly visible area to a larger shoreline community.
