DESCRIPTION
The Community Nearshore Restoration Program (CNRP) for the southern Kistap County shoreline within the Hood Canal resulted in developing and providing outreach events for community residents about shoreline processes, biological effects, and best management practices for property owners. This includes presenting to five community groups and six county and nonprofit organizations. From these events, a list of community contacts and communication networks was created.
Other results include:
-Convening a Kitsap County Marine Shoreline Landowner Advisory Committee of eleven community members that then develop the Seabeck education workshop.
-Conducting a workshop where 73 participants learned about impacts on shoreline habitat, benefits for native plants on shorelines, noxious weed impacts on shorelines, water quality conditions in their area, and were provided information on types of restoration projects.
-Participants from the workshop helped host and develop five neighborhood beach walks where 56 shoreline property owners were presented the status the low dissolved oxygen, helped in identifying habitat projects, water quality and runoff, and low impact development
-CNRP sponsor and partners continues to communicate and engaged shoreline communities through their community leaders.
