DESCRIPTION
The Southshore CNRP, Community Nearshore Restoration Program, was developed to identify shoreline problems areas, educate the public, and work with willing landowners to incorporate new practices or restore their properties along the southern most coastline and immediate upland and bluff areas of the Hood Canal, from Union to Belfair.
Grant funding has been awarded to the Hood Canal Coordinating Council (HCCC) to organize landowner and community education workshops and to provide native plants and technical assistance for restoration efforts. Through this effort, HCCC has trained numerous citizens and groups, such as Master Gardiners, to work with other willing landowners to create native plant planting plans individualized for each property site.
From the outreach efforts a Southshore Advisory Committee was formed, which consists of 13 local residents and 19 individuals that represent 9 agencies. There have been two workshops (100 attendees) and three educational beach walks in the Southshore region. Thirteen individuals signed up for the Marine Riparian Initiative and took native plants being offered for their properties. Eleven people volunteered to host beach walks
