DESCRIPTION
South Puget Sound Salmon Enhancement Group (SPSSEG) used this funding to restore the marine shoreline at Frye Cove Park owned by Thurston County in Eld Inlet. The park includes 1,400 feet of shoreline and offers recreational shellfishing most of the year. This project removed approximately 1,000 cubic yards of rip-rap that was armoring 400 feet of marine shoreline in Eld Inlet. Prior to Thurston County creating the rural park, previous property owners had placed many tons of rip-rap along the shoreline to stop natural erosion of the upper beach. These angular rocks were placed along the toe of the bank as a loose bulkhead but had migrated out onto the beach. They were hindering the natural process of the beach and limiting forage fish and salmonid potential. In addition to removing all of the rip-rap from the toe and beach profile, the project strategically installed large woody debris to maintain a safe public access path to the beach and to add natural beach complexity and function.
