DESCRIPTION
This project created two preliminary designs for two barrier culverts located on unnamed tributaries to Lucas Creek in Lewis County, WA. Culvert 021(46005)(04239) is rated as 33% passable due to an outfall drop and steep slope. It is located underneath Lucas Creek Road at Lat 46.651062 and Long -122.704155. This project will open up 1.36 miles of stream when it is replaced. Culvert 021(46005)(04386) is rated as 33% passable due to an outfall drop and slope. This one is also located underneath Lucas Creek Road and is at Lat 46.6494751 and Long -122.7043762. This project will open up 2.08 miles of upstream habitat when it is replaced. Both of these streams are entirely in forestland and have high quality habitat for spawning and rearing. A full habitat survey was completed in the past for both of this crossings. Culvert 021(46005)(04239) received a priority index number of 14.07 and culvert 021(46005)(04386) received a priority index number of 15.36. The process of applying for permits was begun but was not finished before the grant was closed. The Lewis Conservation District or Lewis County will apply for funding to replace these culverts in 2020 or 2021. This project will open up habitat for coho, coastal cutthroat, steelhead, and resident trout. All PCSRF FY13 funds were spent during the award period even though this project extends outside of that award period due to other funding.
